After bringing home the 1989 1 ton truck, it was time to start removing the 454 and then removing the 307 from the 1969 K20 in preparation for the swap. It is a very good idea to bag and identify all the nuts and bolts as disassembly proceeds!
First I began by removing the 454. This was my first engine removal and I was selling the TBI system so I tried to be carefull in removing wires and labeling them as I went. What a greasy mess!
After removing the 454 it was time to start cleaning it up. I found that power washing then using Castrol Super Clean a scraper and a tooth brush were a good way to start removing the grime. Then I used lacquer thinner to prep the block for painting with VHT Hi temp engine paint.
After the 454 was clean it was time to remove the 307 from the 1969 K20. Jason (blazerboy) and Larry (Barn9) came by one evening and helped me pull the 307. We of course began by pulling the hood. Then the front clip. Then bolting on the engine leveler. After a little friendly persuasion, she came right out.
What a grimey mess!
